Purpose
The Roster Screen in NHS At Work is where Roster Managers can manage work patterns, leave, vacant and outsourced shifts. It ensures both operational managers and medics always have access to the most up-to-date roster.
This guide provides a visual overview of the Roster Screen, highlighting where you can find key information and actions. It’s designed to give you a starting point and support efficient use of the system.

The Roster Screen
- Roster Menu – Clicking on the ellipsis within the Roster Information Bar opens an actions menu.
- Roster Information Bar – Includes Roster Name, Start Date, Last Published Date and Published Status.
- Roster Duration – Gives users the ability to configure roster to a Daily, Weekly, 4-Weekly or 6-Weekly View.
- Date Picker – Gives users the ability to navigate to specific dates within the roster either by using the navigation arrows, or to choose a specific date by clicking on the calendar view.
- Roster Action Menu – Clicking on the Ellipsis within the Roster Screen opens a menu to complete Operational Tasks within the Roster, including Adding Additional Shifts or Leave, Outsourcing Shifts to Bank/Agency etc.
- Roster Filter Menu – Clicking on the Filter Icon within the Roster Screen opens up filter options to give users the ability to configure the roster view dependent on their requirements.
- Vacant Shift Bar – All unfilled Vacant Shifts appear at the top of the roster.
- Medic Name List – Shows alongside the shifts that have been assigned to each medic within the Roster. Clicking on the medics name will take you directly to their staff profile.
- Shift Card – Holds all information about that shift, including Times, Shift Name, and any relevant Icons.
- Tool Tips – Hovering over a Medic Name or a Shift Card will give more information about that individual Medic or Shift.
- Split Shifts – Shifts can be split within the Roster to notify medics that they will be required to complete different activities or within different locations throughout their shift.
- Published & Unpublished Shifts – Published shifts have a navy blue border. Unpublished shifts have a red border.
- Unavailability – Unavailability/Leave is shown by a grey cross-hatched card for the duration of the Unavailability. The shift card will also show greyed out underneath the unavailability card.
- Shift Menu – Clicking on the ellipsis within the Shift Card gives Users the ability to take further action against the selected shift, including Adding TOIL, Editing or Splitting the shift etc.
